DBaaS: Your managed databases in 2 clicks

Why choose Clever Cloud’s DBaaS?
At Clever Cloud, we know that database management doesn’t stop at initial deployment. This is why our DBaaS (Database as a Service) offering goes beyond simply providing instances: we operate the infrastructure, whilst you remain in control of your data and its evolution.
Our approach rests on three fundamental pillars:

Ease of use
Creating a database has never been so simple. From our console, select your add-on, choose your plan and your database is operational in seconds. No complex configuration, no server management: we take care of everything.

Maintaining operational conditions
The major advantage of our DBaaS (Database as a Service) lies in our commitment to maintaining your databases in operational condition. We operate your databases over time: proactive monitoring, preventive intervention, incident resolution and continuous optimisation. Your role? Using your data. Ours? Ensuring they are always available and performant.

Enhanced security
As a French hosting provider certified ISO 27001:2022, we guarantee the security of your data, protection against extra-territorial laws and GDPR compliance. Our databases benefit from automatic daily backups and integrated monitoring to ensure complete peace of mind.
Our database range
PostgreSQL
The reference open-source SQL database, delivered with integrated PG Studio. Our offering includes several extensions by default such as PostGIS, pg_stat_statements or pgvector. Others are available on request (pg_cron, ivm, pgaudit…). PGPool II can also be configured on the application side for load balancing or pooling.
MySQL
The most popular open-source SQL solution, ideal for your web applications. MySQL remains the preferred choice for many web projects. Our offering includes PHPMyAdmin for simplified graphical management and ProxySQL can be configured to optimise your connection performance.
MongoDB
Flexible document NoSQL database for your projects requiring an evolving data structure (note: version 4.0.3 only). MongoDB excels in managing unstructured data and offers great flexibility for modern applications requiring evolving schemas.
Redis®
High-performance cache and ultra-fast key-value storage. JSON Module support enabled by default, version 8 also available with vector capabilities. Possibility to set up a Redis® replica directly from the console for data replication.
Elasticsearch
Search and analysis engine with Kibana and APM included. Clever Cloud is the only French and European PaaS to offer Elasticsearch Platinum functionalities, giving you access to the full power of the Elastic stack without restrictions.
Materia KV – Our revolutionary serverless database based on FoundationDB
Materia KV represents the culmination of our database expertise. Developed entirely by our teams, this serverless solution relies on FoundationDB, the open-source distributed transactional engine used by Apple for iCloud and Snowflake for their critical services.
Why Materia KV is a game-changer:
- Extreme resilience: Automatic synchronous replication across our three Parisian datacentres. When our servers respond to you, it’s because your data has been written three times;
- Automatic scalability: From zero to infinity, Materia automatically adapts to your load without any intervention on your part;
- Protocol compatibility: Compatible with the Redis® API natively, and soon with DynamoDB and GraphQL. No technological lock-in;
- Usage-based billing: Pay only for what you consume, with no monthly minimum;
- Native distribution: Architected from the start for high availability with unique simulation capability inherited from FoundationDB.
Dedicated and personalised support
Our French support team accompanies you Monday to Friday via chat on our console. Various customisations are possible according to your specific needs: leader/follower replication, custom extensions, bespoke configurations.
Complete documentation available for perfect integration into your development workflows.

Q&A : Database as a Service
What is a DBaaS (Database as a Service)?
A DBaaS is a cloud service that provides fully managed databases. The provider takes care of installation, configuration, updates, backups and maintenance, allowing developers to focus on their applications.
What databases are available on Clever Cloud?
Clever Cloud offers PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB (version 4.0.3), Redis® (version 8 with JSON modules), Elasticsearch with Platinum functionalities, and Materia KV our proprietary serverless solution. Each database is available in several plans with different storage and performance capacities.
How are database backups managed?
All our databases benefit from automatic daily backups. You can also create manual snapshots on demand and configure custom backup policies according to your needs.
Can I scale my database with Clever Cloud’s DBaaS?
You can perform migrations to superior plans and versions from our console. These migrations involve a temporary interruption to writes (reads remain possible), but allow you to adjust memory and storage according to your growing needs.
Is Clever Cloud’s DBaaS compatible with my existing applications?
Absolutely! Our databases use standard protocols and are compatible with all popular drivers and ORMs. Migration from another hosting provider is simple and our team can support you in this process.
What is the difference between Materia KV and Redis®?
Materia KV is our serverless solution based on FoundationDB, offering extreme resilience with automatic distribution across three datacentres, usage-based billing and automatic scalability. Our Redis® offering allows the setup of a Redis® server dedicated to the client (like all our DBaaS add-ons) with instances sized according to your predictable needs.
